IM schwarm

(In the Shoal)

2024

ich sehe dich. und ich beginne mich zu sehen. und ich begegne mir und erschaffe mich selbst - in verbundenheit. und wir atmen - gemeinsam. wasser und ich.

There are boys, there are girls, and there is everything in between.

Like Yuki, who moves along a line between identities and longs to move freely—to dance, swim, and drift. What begins as an underwater dream gradually becomes reality. The line turns into an open sea full of possibilities, where every being can take on different forms, colours, and stories.

What begins as an underwater dream gradually becomes reality, and the line on which everyone moves suddenly transforms into a vast ocean of endless possibilities. A school of fish has many shapes, colors, and stories. It can instantly shift into countless forms and figures. Whether sea creature, jellyfish, or starfish — everyone is carried along within the swarm.

The play tells the story of people who want to express themselves freely, regardless of whether they identify as a girl, a boy, somewhere in between, neither, or everything at once. Life is a celebration. Dance along!

I performed in the production and contributed to the stage design, with a particular focus on live video drawing.

The visual concept was inspired by the fluid and ever-changing nature of a shoal. Through live drawing and projection, illustrations became part of the performance itself, creating an additional visual layer that could transform and evolve alongside the actors on stage.

Initially, the concept involved live drawing on stage, which would be projected in real time during the performance. After initial tests, the team decided to switch to a pre-produced animated video due to time constraints. The final animation was carefully synchronized with the performer’s timing, allowing it to integrate seamlessly into the live stage performance.
